How We Build our products
Selecting the Materials
The first and most important step in crafting our eye-catching wood products is selecting the perfect woods to use. With so many stunning options available—both exotic species and those grown right here in Canada—you’ll always find something exceptional. We exclusively use high-quality hardwoods for their durability, beauty and resilience. When you choose any of our boards or other wood products, you can trust they’re built to withstand cutting, chopping, dicing, and slicing. With proper care and maintenance, using our signature board butter, your wood products will remain beautiful and reliable for years to come.
Cutting and Smoothing
After carefully selecting the wood, we use a table saw to cut it into various sizes tailored to the specific products we're creating. At this point we also cut multiple strips of different widths and set them aside to later use as decorative accents for our products. Next, the cut pieces go through the planer, ensuring both sides are leveled and perfectly flat. Once planed, we smooth the edges and ends by running the pieces through the jointer, so each one fits seamlessly with the next.
All of this prep work pays off as we can now “build” our product by placing and moving complimentary accent strips in and around the main part of the product until we reach the ideal design and width.
It All Comes Together
We're now ready to glue and clamp the pieces together using food-safe, waterproof wood glue. After a drying time of 24 hours, we remove the clamps and carefully scrape off any excess dried glue. Finally, we pass the piece through the planer to ensure both sides are perfectly smooth and level once more.
Next we'll use the table saw to trim the ends and sides, ensuring the product is brought to the correct dimensions. Afterwards, we'll pass it through the jointer one final time to achieve a smooth finish on all sides and edges.
Grooves and Grips
Now the product is truly coming together beautifully, showcasing how the different woods harmonize with one another. If we're making a Charcuterie Board, we'll now move on to the shaping process. This involves creating & carefully cutting a unique handle into the end of the board (sometimes on both ends) to complete the look.
We offer 2 options for our Cutting Boards; one style is crafted using a router to create a single 'juice groove' on one side, and the other option is to have both sides smooth & flat.
Our Bread Boards are carefully shaped on each side to look like a slice of bread.
All of our products feature beautifully rounded edges which adds to the overall beautiful design.
Next, we meticulously sand every surface—both sides and edges—repeatedly, until the finish achieves an almost glass-like smoothness.
